Cultural environment is the assembled expression of marks that humans have made in the landscape throughout history. There are also invisible marks, such as placenames or a place where something particular has happened and therefore makes it special. The cultural environment is continuously being created and is a resource from the past for us to preserve and develop.
The comprehension and interpretation of the cultural environment are not static but something we interpret, reinterpret and pass on. Every period of time has its own perception of the surrounding cultural environment and how to treat it.
